A Day in Rancho Palos Verdes
If you're craving a change of scenery but don't want to drive too far beyond the city bounds, Rancho Palos Verdes is an ideal destination
Although I could technically say everything I do in LA counts as “research” (a very fun conversation with my accountant) - my day in Rancho Palos Verdes wasn’t necessarily planned for research purposes. However… I was so inspired after my day trip, I knew I had to share it with the TTS community! Read below for my day trip itinerary, and don’t miss a new addition to the newsletter at the end - moving forward, I’ll be sharing a few events in the city that catch my eye every week!

A note about the drive - One of the highlights of my visit was the experience of driving the area. I highly recommend giving yourself plenty of time to drive the streets, park at any viewpoint that catches your eye, and especially if you visit in the spring or summer months - you’ll be able to see hundreds of different flower varieties and greenery! This is a really special place, especially for nature lovers :)
Brunch at Yellow Vase - Yellow Vase is a charming, quaint cafe tucked away in a shopping plaza. But here’s the kicker - this particular shopping plaza is pristine, and Yellow Vase’s corner feels like you’re eating on the patio of an Italian villa. The food is just fine, but there’s a wide variety of options and the aesthetics make up for it tenfold!
Find a viewpoint overlooking the famous Palos Verdes Bluffs - There is no shortage of beautiful views in RPV. As I mentioned earlier - half of the draw to this area is the beautiful drive along the coast, as you pass dozens of breathtaking vistas every minute. Though you really can’t go wrong, here are a few points I recommend: Palos Verdes Estates Cliffs, Bluff Cove Lookout, and Palos Verdes Nature Reserve.
Explore the grounds and enjoy the views at Wayfarers Chapel - Wayfarers Chapel is a stunning, primarily glass structure built on a cliff overlooking the ocean. What more could you ask for?? Designed by Lloyd Wright and completed in 1951, this chapel stays true to Wright’s organic architecture style and practically feels like it’s grown out of the ground. This chapel took my breath away, and I was truly speechless as I toured the area. Beyond the building, you can explore several different viewpoints of the water & cliffs, and also admire the pristine gardens, rolling hills, and dreamy cypress & redwood trees. I cannot express this enough - please go visit this space! The chapel is open to the public 9 AM - 5 PM every day, except when they are hosting private events. More information on the chapel & it’s history can be found here.
More South Bay treats - If you still have some time left in your day and you simply cannot bear to leave - Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach sit just 20 minutes North of RPV. Catch the sun set at the beach, and grab a beer at Hermosa Brewing Company to cap off the day.
Ticket to Sarahdise Event Digest - Week of 4/17
LA Times Festival of Books - all weekend, LA Times is hosting their annual Festival of Books on the USC campus. I have been attending this event since I was a kid and it was hosted at UCLA - for any bookworms, this is a can’t-miss event! Check the schedule here to see if any of your favorite authors are participating :)
Bike to Care Tasting Event at Redbird, hosted by Re: Her - On Sunday 4/23, Regarding Her Food is hosting a really special tasting event in the garden at Redbird! The food lineup is incredible, and you’ll be supporting a great cause - all chefs participating will be participating in the Bike to Care event in May. Show some support and eat some delicious food! Reservations can be made here.
Pét Sounds Wine Release Party at In Sheep’s Clothing - On Saturday 4/22, Good Boy Wine and In Sheep’s Clothing Hi-Fi are throwing a release party for their new wine collab, Pét Sounds. I LOVE a good collab, and this duo is electric. Head to West Hollywood Saturday evening for a guaranteed good time - tickets and more info can be found here.
